The Serenity Wavestation

Case Considerations

All the cases we offer with this system have been carefully selected for their exceptional quietness and/or effective internal sound-dampening properties.

For the lowest possible noise levels, we recommend cases with solid side panels rather than windowed ones. Solid panels are typically lined with sound-dampening material on the inside, helping to minimise noise from internal components.

If you require a front-panel USB Type-C connection, please review the specifications of your chosen case, as not all models include this feature.

Which Processors do I need?

Please note that processors with the K suffix tend to run hotter than their non-K counterparts, so they require more effective cooling. If you opt for a K-series processor, we recommend upgrading to a higher-performance cooler rather than relying on the default option.

To help you select the right CPU cooler for your chosen processor, you’ll find a note in brackets after each cooler’s name indicating which CPU it is best suited for.

Motherboard Features and Connectivity

Thunderbolt

The integrated Thunderbolt (1 x USB-C) makes this system ideal for high-speed audio data transfer between your audio interface and DAW.

Thunderbolt audio interfaces offer numerous benefits, making them a popular choice among professional audio engineers and music producers. Key advantages include:

• Low Latency: Thunderbolt provides ultra-low latency, ensuring minimal delay between the input signal and output. This is essential for musicians who require real-time monitoring during recording or live performances.
• High Bandwidth: Thunderbolt supports high-speed data transfer, enabling seamless streaming of multiple audio channels simultaneously. This is particularly beneficial for large-scale recording projects and high-resolution audio.

High Speed DDR5 Memory

Today, many musicians rely on software-based instruments, effects, and sample libraries. If you are one of them, the amount of memory you have significantly impacts the speed and responsiveness of your audio applications, as the PC will spend less time moving data to and from the SSD.

For a typical home-based DAW, 32GB of memory is sufficient. However, for professional users, 64GB or more is recommended for optimal performance.

Additional USBs

Modern studios often require numerous USB connections to accommodate various devices. While external USB hubs are an option, USB expansion cards can be installed directly inside the PC. These options are available in the configuration section below.

PCIe 5.0

The latest Intel processors introduce PCIe 5.0 support, doubling the data transfer speed of PCIe 4.0. This makes it robust enough to handle new, data-intensive tasks. PCIe 5.0 also brings other benefits, such as electrical changes to improve signal integrity, backward-compatible CEM connectors for add-in cards, and backward compatibility with previous versions of the PCIe bus.

Intel 2.5Gb Ethernet and WiFi 7

The integrated Intel 2.5Gb Ethernet delivers significantly enhanced LAN connectivity, offering speeds up to 2.5 times faster than standard 1Gb connections. Additionally, built-in WiFi 7 ensures stable, low-latency connections, making it ideal for modern gaming and streaming requirements.

Note: Wi-Fi 7 will require Windows 11 24H2 or later version.

Graphics Considerations

Modern processors with onboard graphics can easily support your DAW in 4K resolution across multiple monitors, using only the motherboard. The motherboard included in this system supports two 4K monitors at 60 Hz via HDMI and DisplayPort. If you prefer to offload some of the processing from the CPU or require a graphics card for more graphically demanding applications, you can always add a dedicated graphics card.

For DAW use, fanless graphics cards such as the MSI GT 1030, ASUS GT 1030 or RTX 3050 provide fast and smooth performance while remaining quiet.

To minimise system noise, choose a graphics card described as Fanless which, as its name suggests, has no fan. The larger, more powerful graphics cards have built-in fans. We recommend opting for a graphics card described as Semi-Fanless. These operate silently under lighter loads, as the fan only starts spinning when the GPU temperature exceeds approximately 50°C. This ensures quiet operation during regular use, with additional cooling provided under higher loads.

DVD Drive

If you require an internal DVD drive, please check the specifications of your chosen case, as not all cases include the necessary 5.25” drive bay.

Storage Considerations

The default system drive provided with the Wavestation i18 Pro may be sufficient for many users. However, you can customise your system by opting for a higher-capacity system drive and adding additional data drives as needed.

The configurator below offers three storage options:

• Standard mechanical hard drives (HDDs): Cost-effective and ideal for high-capacity storage, though they produce some noise due to moving parts.
• Solid-state drives (SSDs): Provide silent operation and faster read/write speeds, making them ideal for regular data access.
• M.2 NVMe drives: Offer exceptional read/write speeds of up to 7500 MB/s, making them the perfect choice for installing operating systems and DAW software.

RAID Storage

For advanced storage needs, you may wish to configure two drives as a RAID array to improve performance or enhance fault tolerance. We offer two types of RAID configurations:

• RAID 0 (Striped) arrays stripe data and write information across two separate drives and is often used to increase the speed at which data is accessed and retrieved. The downside is that if a drive fails then you lose everything, so it is important to make regular backups. Unless you’re using software that can benefit from the increased sequential write speed, there’s no reward for the increased risk. RAID 0 on PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD’s simply isn’t worth it.
• RAID 1 (Mirrored) arrays mirror data and write identical information across both drives simultaneously without a speed penalty. So if one drive fails, no data is lost and the PC stays running. However, if both drives (or more likely the motherboard) fails then you lose everything, so it is still important to backup regularly.

Important Reminder: Neither RAID 0 nor RAID 1 guarantees complete data integrity. Always back up your important data to an external drive or a cloud storage solution.

The Acousti Speaker Decoupling Anti-Vibration Pads isolate your studio speakers from the surface on which they stand for a tighter and more accurate sound by helping to eliminate unwanted buzzing and resonance on a hard surface.

Each pack contains 4 Speaker Pads and 4 pre-cut levelling wedge adjusters so you can either have the speakers sat horizontally or adjust the angle of the speakers (upwards or downwards) and have them pointing directly towards your ears for the best possible listening experience.

We offer free hardware technical support for as long as you own the machine. This support covers any hardware query or problem, including advice on maintenance and upgrades. We regret we can’t offer software support or training so we would recommend contacting the software vendor in this instance.

Our hardware warranty runs for at least two years and is “collect and return” meaning that you don’t need to worry about getting the machine back to us - we will instruct our courier to collect it from you on a day of your choosing, then after we have checked and repaired it we will send it back to you by express courier at our expense. In addition, unlike many other PC suppliers, we have an “open-case” policy which means you are free to open the machine and perform your own minor modifications or upgrades without worrying that your warranty might be affected.
